On the day of September 11, 2001 New York City was surprised by not one, but two terrorist attacks. Even though there were actually 4 attacks in total ( NY's twin towers, the Pentagon, and one aiming for the White House) only 2 planes hit New York. On that Tuesday morning, 19 terrorists from al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger airplanes. The hijackers intentionally piloted two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 & United Airlines Flight 175 into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center . Both towers collapsed within two hours. The hijackers also crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the fourth hijacked plane United Airlines Flight 93, which was supposed to hit the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. ended up crashing into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, because of the passengers trying to take back control of the plane.
Honestly I remember this day like it was yesterday. I was 9 years old, I got up for school at 8 as usual. I was in Third grade & I went to P.S 229, I remember waking up to alot of commotion in my house, not knowing what was going on I walk outside my room and saw my moms crying her eyes out wit my grandmother. Still confused I looked at the tv and saw the live coverage of what was going on in Manhattan. I stepped outside and had a clear view of the first and second tower getting hit. It was mind blowing. The thing that really threw me off was that my mother worked in Windows Of The World, a famous restaurant inside of the North tower on the 106th floor. That day my mother was feeling sick and called off work early before anything even started. Then to see the towers collapse was a crazy moment in my mothers life as all her co workers that showed up that day died. I thank god every day for her being sick that day.
Today we remember everyone that died in the towers and everyone that died serving and helping out those in need. To the familes that lost somebody on this day God bless you all. Today marks 11 years since the attacks. Sepetember 11, 2001 will for be in our hearts, Not just in New York City, but worldwide.
